No, I am not talking about the change in between the couch cushions.
No, I am not talking about changing your hair color or losing weight.
No, I am not talking about just changing your wardrobe.
How about changing the course your life is taking?
Are you looking at a victim or a survivor?
Are you looking at your father’s/mother’s/society’s version of you?
Are you looking at a woman who knows who she is and what her passions are?
I sure hope so!
But, if you aren’t and want to CHANGE that….what can you do about it?
I have a prescription for this ailment. Identify the little girl who has taken on everyone else’s hopes, dreams and damage. Heal and support her. Say goodbye to the old, useless and “extra” parts of her. Get to know the YOU inside. The YOU that has the burning desire to use her voice, to find her passion, to explore her world, to grow and learn.
You CAN pick up 20 self help books and start reading, or pay some guru $500 for a canned online seminar. But, why would you?
Sure, I would love for you to come take my Smart Girl, Wise Woman workshops if you are 18-24 and live in Los Angeles. But…most of you reading this can’t do that.
So, I will offer up one way to find a place to begin to change your perspective, be listened to, find support, engage with your sisters(other women) and look deeper into who you are and what you want.
Run…don’t walk to a nearby or virtual circle of women.
What is a women’s circle you ask? Good question. For more information you can look at the Gather the Women website. I am the local Regional Coordinator for GTW. It is my role to help you start a circle in your community if you are in the Hollywood/San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Just contact me , and let’s get started!
I can make one promise to you…once you start/find a circle you will begin to see a different woman in that mirror each morning. I have been gathering circles of girl for over 20 yrs. I recently gathered a group of friends in my own private wormen’s circle. Our lives are already richer, we already feel supported and heard. Perspectives are already changing.
Smart Girl, Wise Woman functions like a women’s circle too! I can attest to the power of loving, kind, thoughtful support that a women’s circle can bring.
If you try it out or already participate in a circle, I would LOVE to hear about it.
Note: I was disheartened in my search for a stock photo for this post. When I searched “Woman mirror” every single photo was of a white woman. I had to literally type in “Black woman mirror” to find any women of color. Look for a post of White privilege and institutionalized racism when we get to “W”.
